This family owned estate in Maremma Toscana began wine production under the leadership of Lorenzo Zonin in 2000. According to the Wine Spectator and
the Wine Advocate, Lorenzo Zonin is making some of the most fascinating wines in Maremma. The property stretches out over 110 acres, 37 acres are planted with vines, 5 acres with olive trees and 50 acres with cereal crops and sunflowers. Amaranto is a shade of red, similar to that of this wine, which takes its name from a scarlet plant that the Ancient Greeks called ‘amarantos’ (‘which doesn’t fade’). It therefore represented all those genuine, sacred and timeless qualities that still permeate land and vines. Podere San Cristoforo is characterized by the constant presence of breezes blowing from the sea, keeping the grapes healthy and moderating the high summer temperatures. These grapes are souced from Marolli vineyard, with a density of 4.850 vines/hectare. The vines are on average 21 years and yield 7 tonnes/hectare.

 **Winemaker Notes:**  

 The grapes used to produce this wine are from the best appellations in Napa Valley from the best growers. A list of our growers include: Sequoia Grove estate vineyard, Tonella estate vineyard, Stagecoach, Morisoli, Lamoreaux, Henry Brothers, Healy vineyard, Beckstoffer George III, and Christian.

 Each site was harvested at its ideal brix, ranging between 23 and 27, and picked over the course of six weeks, from September 19 – October 31. The fruit was hand sorted before undergoing a 1-2 day cold soak. The lots were individually fermented in small batches, with gentle pumpovers 2-3 times per day. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel, where it was aged for 20 months before being racked and bottled in August 2014.

 **Tasting Notes:**  

 Dark red in color, on the nose the wine smells of blackberry, black cherry, and clove, with background notes of coffee and vanilla. On the palate, the wine bursts with fresh fruit, cherries, and blackberries. A seamless arc of flavor flows into a slightly smoky finish.

2012 Sequoia Grove Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Situated in the mountains above Conn Valley and near the base of Howell Mountain, the Buehler Estate
vineyards are planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon. The juxtaposed topography of steeply sloped
hillsides with eastern exposures against very gently sloping hills with southern and southwestern
exposures hints at the tumultuous geologic past of the Estate; extensive faulting resulted in at least
three distinct soil types. Not surprisingly, grapes grown on the different soils give different
characteristics to the finished wines; these differences are often as great as the differences across
various Bordeaux varieties and allow us to blend within the variety of Cabernet Sauvignon to craft a
truly multi-faceted Estate wine.

The 2013 needs time in bottle for the tannins to soften, but it is a real head-turner. The combination of intense tannin and opulent fruit is classic 2013.”

**Winemaker Notes:**  

As always, both red-fruited and black-fruited (unusual for the current popular style of this variety), slightly herbal with mouth-watering acidity, this is a very food friendly expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. Having worked with the variety in the region since the late 1970’s this is what I think of as a classic, traditional expression of Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. While 100% varietal from Scherrer Vineyard, this part of the vineyard speaks more of the region than the specific site, so I ‘only’ label it such. It relies about as much on acidity as tannin for its ‘angles/structure’ which is rare for local Cabernet Sauvignon anymore and makes this more food friendly than most. While we release this to restaurants and wine shops sooner than the vineyard designate, this ages really well too and may well be the more versatile of the two. 250 cases produced.

 **Tasting Notes:**  

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is typically one of the softer, rounder manifestations of the varietal. This is the more open-structured of our two Cabernet bottlings, which reveals its accessible, yet substantial and age-worthy personality. Rich, plummy, lightly herbal, and toasty, with mild cassis character, this unfined, unfiltered wine will complement a wide variety of foods for many years.

There are incredible aromatics on this Cabernet. Dusted summer blackberries and creme de cassis. Delicate fine-tuned French oak strikes a perfect balance, never overshadowing the fruit. Martin Ray's Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon is often defined by its subtlety in contrast to the much more immodest mountain Cabernets, with already matured ripe red cherries, floral violets and aromatic baking spices reminiscent of nutmeg and cloves. As is typical of the Stags Leap District Cabernet, it is always the first out of the gate with an early appreciable mellowing of its tannins and forward presentation of its bright red fruit.
We sourced our 2016 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon from a collection of tiny vineyard blocks encompassing several row orientations and slopes, all carefully planted to optimize sun exposure. The soil in the Stags Leap District is composed of ancient volcanic alluvial runoff which produces low yields with great intensity and flavor.

Our 2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant representation of Napa Valley Cabernet from a cool vintage. It presents an opaque garnet hue in the glass and reveals aromas of sandalwood and roasted meats. Flavors of vanilla, coffee beans and raspberries are buttressed by dusty tannins, firm acidity and a mouth-coating texture. Given proper cellaring, this wine should provide drinking pleasure through 2029.

Jean Claude Boisset’s 2020 Les Moutots Aligoté Bourgogne showcases Aligoté, a light, citrusy white with a lean minerality and crisp acidity. Winemaker Grégory Patriat focused on this beautiful grape from the 50+ year old vines just south of the village of Chorey-Lès-Beaune in North Côte de Beaune. Far less encountered than Chardonnay, Aligoté is the grape flying under the radar of Burgundy - which means it’s just the thing to perk up your personal collection. 

You’ll find Aligoté planted at the bottom and at the tops of the slopes of Burgundy where Chardonnay doesn’t fare as well. While made with the same care as Chardonnay these wines are the more informal table wine counterpoint to their storied cousins. But they are no less delicious. Since 1992, when he left a life in the music industry to take over the family domaine, essentially trading in his turntables for a tractor, Olivier has never looked back.

Crucially, the vineyards of Chitry (she-TREE) share exactly the same chalky, Kimmeridgian soils as Chablis. Yet unlike with many laisser-faire Chablis producers, Olivier and his wife, Nelly, are detailed and diligent, caring for their older vines organically, as well as fermenting on indigenous yeasts and adding but homeopathic doses of sulfur at bottling.

The Burgundian soils are mostly limestone with a good proportion of clay but the variation from a village to another can be decisive for the characteristics of the wine. Although Chardonnay is the most common white variety, winemaker Grégory Patriat decided to vinify old vine Aligoté with the same care as a fine Chardonnay.  The Aligoté vines of "Les Moutots" have an average age of 50 years old and display extraordinary minerality and freshness.

Citrus fruits and white flowers are jumbling together, pure aromas! Bold wine with citrus fruit flavors and a touch of hazelnut. Beautiful vivacity.

Winemaker Notes:
The wine has a deep, opaque purple color suggesting intensity and extraction. Heady aromas and flavors deliver jammy black fruit with notes of cedar. The body is full, with silky tannins and a long, penetrating finish.
Exceptional with red meat and aged cheeses.


2015 Tenuta Sette Ponti Poggio Al Lupo Toscana Red Blend 750ML

Famous for its bold, layered and long-lived red, Brunello di Montalcino, the town of Montalcino is about 70 miles south of Florence, and has a warmer and drier climate than that of its neighbor, Chianti. The Sangiovese grape is king here, as it is in Chianti, but Montalcino has its own clone called Brunello.

The Brunello vineyards of Montalcino blanket the rolling hills surrounding the village and fan out at various elevations, creating the potential for Brunello wines expressing different styles. From the valleys, where deeper deposits of clay are found, come wines typically bolder, more concentrated and rich in opulent black fruit. The hillside vineyards produce wines more concentrated in red fruits and floral aromas; these sites reach up to over 1,600 feet and have shallow soils of rocks and shale.

Brunello di Montalcino by law must be aged a minimum of four years, including two years in barrel before realease and once released, typically needs more time in bottle for its drinking potential to be fully reached. The good news is that Montalcino makes a “baby brother” version. The wines called Rosso di Montalcino are often made from younger vines, aged for about a year before release, offer extraordinary values and are ready to drink young.

"Vinification and aging: fermentation of the sangiovese grapes takes place in stainless steel vats where maceration lasts about 18/20 days at a controlled temperature of 28/30°C. Shortly after alcoholic fermentation, the wine is transferred into barrels of 42 HL where malolactic fermentation takes place. The estate bottled wine then remains stored in the cellar for further refinement."

The 2017 vintage was met with very dry weather. Starting with a dry winter that lasted until the 9th of September, when there was a lot of concentrated rain. In June, shoots stopped growing due to the dryness. This caused worry that the vines would not ripen the grapes. Instead, the arrival of harvest saw obviously fewer grapes, but the leaf apparatus was intact. Grapes had higher concentration and the fruit had a perfect ripening of the skin.
