About this offer
With harvest well underway in Italy, we can't stop thinking about some of our favorite red wines in the world!
Today's 'Sumptuous Italian Red Wines' is all about those wines from a country that prides itself on both its indigenous grapes (there's thousands of 'em) as well as its innovations with favorite international varieties!
A buy-in of just $40 gets you wine with vibrant fruit, intriguing savory flavors, and that signature bright acidity that Italian wines are known for!
I'm talking Aglianico, Sangiovese—the backbone of pricey Brunellos (which we've got for ya!)—and red blends like nothing you've ever tasted!
In fact, our top upgrade, a blend from Tuscany, is one of the most sought-after and expensive wines in the world…
A MAGNUM of 2015 Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, worth $550!!!
The estate was founded in 1981 by Marchesi Ludovico Antinori, a member of the Italian winemaking dynasty Antinori. After spending years abroad, he returned home and founded Ornellaia in Tuscany's Bolgheri area. Already bolstered by the success of the family's Guado al Tasso estate, he wanted to really explore the full potential of this unique coastal region. The wine became so renowned, other famous winemakers wanted a piece. Robert Mondavi actually owned Ornellaia for a time, until it was bought by the Frescobaldi family, a 700-year old Tuscan wine family, who own the property today.
The Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot-Cabernet Franc-Petit Verdot cuvée has earned Ornellaia's major acclaim over the years. That's right, Sangiovese, the superstar grape of Tuscany, is nowhere to be found in this luscious, elegant wine!
I don't know how to explain it, but all those deep fruits, herbaceous and mocha tones you love in Bordeaux wines somehow take on a whole new meaning in the Ornellaia!
