They produce an excellent range of champagne at their state-of-the-art facility, from their award-winning Brut right through to their Prestige Cuvée – Cuvée Charles, in honour of their founder Charles Collin who was the man behind the grower vision back in the early 50’s.Over 90% of the vineyards are planted with Pinot noir, the remainder being planted with chardonnay. This is reflected in the range with the wines showing purity, expression and finesse. They are a young and dynamic team led by the talented winemaker Guillaume Cartier.

Our 2015 Crémant is made from the peppy Pinot Blanc clone 159 from Sierra Madre Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley AVA. This is our sixth vintage of Crémant and we have noticed consistency in the vineyard each year.

Flying Goat Cellars Blanc de Blancs is from Sierra Madre Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley. Chardonnay Clone 15 was selected for its small cluster and berry size, appley and citrusy flavors at low Brix levels. The grapes were handpicked in August and then whole cluster pressed. Just before completing the primary fermentation, the juice was gently moved to neutral French oak barrels to attain a touch of creamy texture from the barrel while finishing fermentation. The young wine was filtered and decanted into sparkling wine bottles, a tirage of sugar and yeast added and a crown cap applied. After aging, it was riddled to collect all the sediment from the secondary fermentation. The wine was then disgorged by hand, a small amount of dosage added, a champagne cork quickly inserted, a wire cage applied and the Goat Bubbles signature wax cap (purple for Blanc de Blancs) added for the finishing touch.

Part of a co-op between three winemakers making wines across four regions of Spain, Azul y Garanza is the home project based in Navarra.
Las Bardenas Reales is an extreme place. Nutrient poor, arid soils, with huge variation between day and night temperatures. Here they found some fabulous old Garnacha vines, growing almost wildly amid forest and biodiversity. Most of these vines, which are spread out in various isolated and very small parcels, are more than 100 years old.
Certified organic, they craft wines through gentle delicate infusion like fermentations, which translate into friendlier, more elegant wines.

2020 Azul y Garanza Naturaleza Salvaje Grenache 750ML

Alejandro Fernández followed family tradition by making wine each year from the grapes of his small vineyards, but it would not be until 1972 that he would have his own real winery. The western half of old Castile has a continental climate. However, it is tempered by the not too distant Atlantic, where the River Duero empties into the sea. The “Father of Rivers”, the Duero, has marked these lands for millennia, providing them with sand and gravel over a base of limestone and clays. It has thus formed a well-drained, but poor and clean soil with just the right amount of organic matter. It is an ideal soil for the vines – with the help of the air, rain and the sun – to conjure forth aromas and flavors rich in nuances and store them in the grapes. “Pesquera” wines are always made from whole de-stemmed grapes. The grapes are macerated at a controlled temperature and the process lasts between 2-3 weeks. The grapes are then pressed. The resulting wine is poured without clarification directly into a subtle combination of American, Spanish and French barrels with different levels of toasting. The wine is stored and decanted frequently for at least 18 months in the barrel, and aged an additional 6 months in the bottle.” – From the Winery

Terroir al Limit make some of the most elegant and expressive wines in the Priorat. The project started in 2001, food and wine obsessed German Dominik Huber fell in love with Priorat after doing an internship at Mas Martinet. With the belief that this dramatic terroir had the potential to yield exceptional grapes and singular wines, he rented a small plot of old vine Garnacha and Carignan, along with some cellar space to vinify the first cuvee.

Over the years he has taken on more vineyards, and devoted increasing time and energy to farming, implementing Biodynamics in his vineyards. The winemaking has also evolved - turning away from the heavily extracted and oaked style that was then so closely associated with quality Priorat. He replaced the small barrels with concrete tanks and large foudres, and adopted gentler extraction, or infusion as he refers to it. 

A firm believer in showcasing the region’s unique vineyard sites, Dominik bottles in the Burgundian model: wine are classified as crus, village wines (Vi de Vila), or regional wines such as the Terroir Historic red and white, where grapes are sourced from trusted growers across the Priorat. The resulting wines are lithe and elegant, pure and expressive, and fully deserve the reputation they’ve acquired.

The apex of the Spanish DO pyramid, a Pago is a designated vineyard site that stands heads and shoulders above its neighbors. Created in 2003, there are only 17in all of Spain. Bodegas Vegalfaro was awarded certification on their Vino de Pago, Los Balagueses, in 2011. Certified organic, the grapes are gravity-fed to tanks and finish fermentation in barrel. The wine ages in French oak for 10 months.

Orben was founded in the mid-1990s by the Anton family of Artevino fame (Izadi, Vetus, Villacreces) and a group of restaurateur-investors. Located near the village of Laguardia the estate farms 79 small vineyard plots all planted between 1945 and 1954. Due to the proximity and relative homogeneity of these sites located at 550–675 meters above sea level and on calcareous clay-limestone soils, the Anton family made the decision to create a separate estate to promote this individual terroir.

The main variety is Tempranillo with a small amount of Graciano. All the vines are head pruned and are farmed sustainably. At harvest the grapes are picked by hand and transported to the winery in small boxes, once there they are destemmed, crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Aging takes place entirely in French oak barrels for between 12 and 15 months. In addition to the estate wine, that simply goes by the name Orben and which is a blend of Tempranillo with a small amount of Graciano, the estate produces Malpuesto from a single vineyard plot of ancient Tempranillo. This site gets its name from the haphazardly way the vines were planted. Most would replace this inefficient site but the Anton family, aware of the quality of the terroir have chosen to preserve and promote it.

This blend of grapes comes from the benchlands of Cakebread's vineyards in Oakville and Rutherford—including Hill Ranch, which surrounds the Rutherford home of Jack and Dolores Cakebread. Benchlands are the narrow regions that mark the transition from a valley’s floor to steeper mountain slopes. This geographic position offers distinctive soil profiles for good root development, as well as mountain shade that protects grapes from extreme conditions, allowing them to ripen slowly and steadily.

97 pts.- Robert Parker: “One of the great efforts of recent years, and not surprisingly so, is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve, a blend of 81% from Howell Mountain, 11% from St. Helena and the rest Calistoga and Mount Veeder. It is a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot aged 20 months in 84% new French oak. At 15.2% natural alcohol, this is a big boy, but also classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon with crème de cassis, graphite, licorice, and a touch of spicy oak. Winemaker Laurie Hook, who has since departed as winemaker, really hit a home run with this beauty. The wine could benefit from 7-10 years cellaring and probably last 30 to 40. When all is said and done, this is an instant classic, the wine full-bodied with oodles of crème de cassis, pen ink, graphite and baking spices. It is multi-dimensional, layered, and one of the all-time great Beringer Private Reserves – and there have been many.” 

Winemaker Notes:
The 2013 Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is an exceptional expression from one of the best vintages in years. The enticing aromas of ripe blackberry, boysenberry, fresh tobacco, brown spice, and sweet mint are profound in the glass. Dense and well-structured, its supple tannins are complemented by notes of espresso, mocha and balanced with a silky and elegant finish.
Blend: 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot.

The fresh acidicity, enduring aromatics and black fruit core are the hallmarks of our estate.
