The Burgundian soils are mostly limestone with a good proportion of clay but the variation from a village to another can be decisive for the characteristics of the wine. The Aligoté vines of "Les Moutots" have an average age of 50 years old and display extraordinary minerality and freshness.

 **Winemaker Notes:**  

 The grapes used to produce this wine are from the best appellations in Napa Valley from the best growers. A list of our growers include: Sequoia Grove estate vineyard, Tonella estate vineyard, Stagecoach, Morisoli, Lamoreaux, Henry Brothers, Healy vineyard, Beckstoffer George III, and Christian.

 Each site was harvested at its ideal brix, ranging between 23 and 27, and picked over the course of six weeks, from September 19 – October 31. The fruit was hand sorted before undergoing a 1-2 day cold soak. The lots were individually fermented in small batches, with gentle pumpovers 2-3 times per day. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel, where it was aged for 20 months before being racked and bottled in August 2014.

 **Tasting Notes:**  

 Dark red in color, on the nose the wine smells of blackberry, black cherry, and clove, with background notes of coffee and vanilla. On the palate, the wine bursts with fresh fruit, cherries, and blackberries. A seamless arc of flavor flows into a slightly smoky finish.

Situated in the mountains above Conn Valley and near the base of Howell Mountain, the Buehler Estate
vineyards are planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon. The juxtaposed topography of steeply sloped
hillsides with eastern exposures against very gently sloping hills with southern and southwestern
exposures hints at the tumultuous geologic past of the Estate; extensive faulting resulted in at least
three distinct soil types. Not surprisingly, grapes grown on the different soils give different
characteristics to the finished wines; these differences are often as great as the differences across
various Bordeaux varieties and allow us to blend within the variety of Cabernet Sauvignon to craft a
truly multi-faceted Estate wine.

**Winemaker Notes:**  

As always, both red-fruited and black-fruited (unusual for the current popular style of this variety), slightly herbal with mouth-watering acidity, this is a very food friendly expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. Having worked with the variety in the region since the late 1970’s this is what I think of as a classic, traditional expression of Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. While 100% varietal from Scherrer Vineyard, this part of the vineyard speaks more of the region than the specific site, so I ‘only’ label it such. It relies about as much on acidity as tannin for its ‘angles/structure’ which is rare for local Cabernet Sauvignon anymore and makes this more food friendly than most. While we release this to restaurants and wine shops sooner than the vineyard designate, this ages really well too and may well be the more versatile of the two. 250 cases produced.

 **Tasting Notes:**  

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is typically one of the softer, rounder manifestations of the varietal. This is the more open-structured of our two Cabernet bottlings, which reveals its accessible, yet substantial and age-worthy personality. Rich, plummy, lightly herbal, and toasty, with mild cassis character, this unfined, unfiltered wine will complement a wide variety of foods for many years.

Martin Ray's Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon is often defined by its subtlety in contrast to the much more immodest mountain Cabernets, with already matured ripe red cherries, floral violets and aromatic baking spices reminiscent of nutmeg and cloves. As is typical of the Stags Leap District Cabernet, it is always the first out of the gate with an early appreciable mellowing of its tannins and forward presentation of its bright red fruit.
We sourced our 2016 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon from a collection of tiny vineyard blocks encompassing several row orientations and slopes, all carefully planted to optimize sun exposure. The soil in the Stags Leap District is composed of ancient volcanic alluvial runoff which produces low yields with great intensity and flavor.

This family owned estate in Maremma Toscana began wine production under the leadership of Lorenzo Zonin in 2000. According to the Wine Spectator and
the Wine Advocate, Lorenzo Zonin is making some of the most fascinating wines in Maremma. The property stretches out over 110 acres, 37 acres are planted with vines, 5 acres with olive trees and 50 acres with cereal crops and sunflowers. Amaranto is a shade of red, similar to that of this wine, which takes its name from a scarlet plant that the Ancient Greeks called ‘amarantos’ (‘which doesn’t fade’). It therefore represented all those genuine, sacred and timeless qualities that still permeate land and vines. Podere San Cristoforo is characterized by the constant presence of breezes blowing from the sea, keeping the grapes healthy and moderating the high summer temperatures. These grapes are souced from Marolli vineyard, with a density of 4.850 vines/hectare. The vines are on average 21 years and yield 7 tonnes/hectare.

Winemaker Notes:
The flagship wine of the Bastianich estate, Vespa Bianco was created to showcase the power and evolution that a great Friulian white can have. Consisting of equal parts Sauvignon and Chardonnay with a measure of Picolit, Vespa becomes more than a sum of its parts, a wine of uncommon complexity and longevity. Layers of fruit supported by a lovely vein of minerality which gives the wine notable continuity on the palate as well as a long, clean finish... Clearly has the stuffing to develop further complexity in bottle.

Our Finca el Origen Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon, a continental Cabernet Sauvignon, stands out for its intense ruby color and a fruity aromatic profile where notes of cassis, violentes and traces of black pepper, red bell pepper and fresh mint are prominent. The 12 months in barrels provide this wine with tobacco and chocolate aromas. It is an elegant and juicy wine, with soft tannins, good structure and exquisite acidity.

Heavy spring rains enriched the soils and delayed bud break by a few weeks. A heat spike in June, followed by warm weather, brought even veraison throughout the vineyards. A cooling trend and touch of rain in mid-September created ideal conditions for the 2019 harvest which is considered a near-perfect vintage.

After an exceptionally challenging start to the growth cycle in 2018, the winemakers were excited to see the developing the qualities of a magnificent vintage by harvest. When it came to the harvests, they were able to focus solely on obtaining optimal ripeness. The perfect health of the grapes enabled us to apply rigorous standards to the quality of their Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which proved to be exceptional. This wine is made up of 80 to 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5 to 20% Merlot, 0 to 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot and was aged in oak barrels for 18-20 months.

Winemaking & Vineyard Notes:
For Jim Close, it is all about balance, complexity, and the special moments as you experience the wine. Wine
that can be savored and remembered. An experience that lingers in your mind, and leaves an impression on
your sole. It begins, as you might expect, in the vineyard. Each vineyard site offers its own personality and
specific character. This carefully selected fruit is thoughtfully blended together, creating a multi-faceted,
intriguing marriage, showcasing the best of each individual vineyard, while forming a sum greater than its
parts.
Careful selections of vines are made and nurtured until harvested, to the finest detail; limiting yield for
optimal flavor development, careful pruning and managing the canopy for even sun exposure and ripeness.
Each vineyard is harvested separately at the optimum time. When that moment arrives and all things are in
balance; the flavors, the acids and the tannins, then we pick and the anticipation of perfection begins. Once
in the winery, each cluster of fruit is gently destemmed, each berry then selected or rejected. We then begin
the fermentation process, gently turning sugar to alcohol with fermentations at 80 deg F, cooler than many
wines made in Napa Valley. By doing this, the focus becomes creating beautiful flavors and the intricate and
nuances of the wine. Elegance and complexity trumps power in our opinion.
