About this offer
As much as love wines from California's North Coast, there's something about the Central Coast that really gets us revved up!
Kind of like the rebel younger sibling, there's a sense of experimentation and rock and roll to the wineries in the vast region. From the innovative cuvées of Paso Robles to Santa Rita Hills' cool-climate take on Syrah to Santa Lucia Highlands' revelatory Pinots, Central Coast has got this energy, ya know?
For a buy-in of just $30 into this morning's 'Standout Central Coast Red Wines' showcase, start with a Rhône-style blend from Paso. This area became famous for its way with Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre blends; it even led to the creation of a collective of winemakers called the Rhône Rangers!
From there, nab standout wines throughout the region, all which will make you rethink everything you think you know about California wines!!!
Just check out this top upgrade, from a winemaker who is nearly single-handedly responsible for boutique winemaking in Paso...
A MAGNUM of 2017 Saxum James Berry Vineyard Red Blend, Paso Robles, worth $400!
Justin Smith began making wine during his college years from the family's vineyard, but after graduation, he branched out to start his own label, Saxum. His way with Rhône varieties began to spread and Smith became a guru for other Paso winemakers.
Critics also heard about this guy with an incredible record collection making killer wine in Paso, and soon it was not unusual to see Saxum's wines touting 100-point scores! Whoa!
Even now, with a 4-year waiting list, Smith refuses to make more than 5,000 cases of wine a year — gotta say, that's a pretty badass commitment to quality control.
But what that means is there's not much Saxum wine out there, and good luck getting your hands on any!
